African American Genealogy SIG

The purpose of the African American Genealogy Shared Interest Group (SIG) is to learn and share research stories, problem-solving techniques, and tools that are focused on African American genealogy. This includes hearing speakers on genealogical and historical topics. We welcome those whose expertise in African American family history research ranges from beginner to experienced and whose interest is local to national and beyond.

Meetings are generally held the first Saturday of the month in the Athens-Clarke Co. Library Heritage Room, Conference Room and virtually via Zoom, however the January 2026 meeting will be held January 10 and there will be no meeting in March. 2026 meetings will be held on the following Saturdays from 10 a.m. – Noon:

  • January 10, HR Conference Room
  • February 7, HR Conference Room
  • No meeting March 7 – members are encouraged to participate in virtual Roots Tech activities (Virtual RootsTech is free!)
